Inglewood Shire is potentially one of the most diverse rural production and value adding areas in Australia, with significant scope for expansion into Organic Produce and Export Market Production.
Traditional Rural Production
Mainstay rural industries are beef cattle, wool, cereal grains, sheep and lambs, hardwoods and cypress pine milling, summer crops, pigs, lucerne, deer, peanuts, fruit and vegetables.
Apart from traditional wool, beef and broad acre crop production, the shire is set to become a major olive and peanut producer, and is well suited to stone fruits, citrus, pecan nuts, herbs, a wide variety of vegetable crops, grapes and aqua culture.
The shire has two large beef cattle feedlots and the Traprock Wool growing region, which passes through the east of the shire, is home of some of the world’s finest quality wool.
Aquaculture and grape and wine production, Export Fruit Orchards along with Olive production are among industries that are now being introduced into the shire.
Soil Types
Inglewood Shire carries extremely diverse soil types and topography, making it suitable to a wide variety of rural production.
Irrigation
Ample irrigation water is also available in the Shire via two main river systems and dams. (The Mcintyre Brook/Coolmunda Dam system and the Dumaresq River/Glenlyon Dam system.)
Information on the current availability of Irrigation water can be obtained from the Macintyre Brook Irrigators Association and the Dumaresq Valley Irrigators Assoc.
