Natural Resources and Raw Materials
Inglewood Shire is fed by the two great River Irrigation systems of the Dumaresq River and Macintyre Brook. These two Systems, including the Glenyon Dam and the Coolmunda Dam, provide the basis for what is clearly to become one of the most diverse Rural Production areas in Australia over the next 15-20 years. Further, it may also become the next great “Salad Bowl” region, able to supply fresh produce to markets right throughout the world.

Between and beyond the Dumaresq River and the MacIntyre Brook, there exist a vast landscape of diverse and highly productive land. Consequently, outstanding diversification is emerging from recognition of the extensive yet untapped diversity of natural resources, due to the extensive variety of soil types and relatively good access to irrigation water.
The diverse topography of the shire has found it rich in timber (with extensive forestry reserves of Hardwoods and Cypress Pine) and extractive materials (sand, gravel, blue metal, limestone, marble, base metals such as gold, copper, lead, zinc, silver.) Huge Limestone reserves and Marble deposits also stand to be made viable for mining and export with the benefit of the Inland Rail Corridor. Near Texas, a new Silver Mining venture is expected to provide strong employment and economic benefit to the shire over years to come.
